37 Weeks and progress...

I finished the binding on the baby quilt today. I sewed a thick, one-inch binding because the batik fabric is so colorful, and the back is a very plain beige color, so it really needed some extra color.

So, that means my sewing projects for the new baby are complete. I still need to sew the storage bag for the nursing cover, but that's not essential. Next on my checklist is packing a hospital bag.

Today the doctor put me at 2 cm dilated. I have extra fluid, which means that if the baby can't put enough pressure on to start the process on its own before my due date, I will be scheduling an induction again. But the fact that I am dilating and progressing at all means that there is a good chance I will go into labor on my own. I want to wait, but there are some benefits of being induced. Knowing ahead of time when you are going to the hospital and telling them, yes, give me that epidural before the contractions get going, please. None of this waiting until your contractions are 5 minutes apart and hope you can make it to the hospital in time thing. We'll see.

36 weeks and counting

Okay, so we still have three different names on our list for this new baby. Is it weird that I already picked his blog nickname? And if we have another boy, I have that one picked too, and it is all Werty's fault because he picked Bear's nickname, and now I have to roll with the theme he gave me.

I am getting ready. I got out the box of newborn clothes. They are now washed, folded, and put in drawers next to where the baby will sleep. Which means, I also did some necessary rearranging. Still need to buy newborn diapers, but that will be on the shopping list for next month.

On Monday, I was 1 cm dilated, 70% effaced. Tuesday we had an ultrasound to make sure the baby's head was down. Just like my last pregnancy, I have some extra fluid, so the Dr. couldn't tell. The head is down, but is not yet engaged. The technician estimated the baby's size to be 6.5 lbs. Since my babies tend to hover around the 8 lb size, I am not expecting to go into labor early or anything. He's got another 1.5 lbs to go, right? The Dr. did ask me if I wanted to schedule an induction again this time or wait to go into labor. I want to wait. Let's hope the baby doesn't take TOO long...like his big brother did. So, who wants to volunteer to be the first person I call when I go into labor? I should point out that the first person I call will be the person willing to come over and be with my kids, even if it's in the middle of the night, so Werty can take me to the hospital. Any takers? Maybe one of Werty's teenage sisters would be willing to be the on-call night person, and miss a day of school for a good cause, huh, maybe? I could have different people volunteer for different days/times, and make a schedule. Just let me know.

Stop Calling Names...

We don't call people names because it's not nice. That's what Bear has been told in the past. The names he calls his sister are usually made up, funny, or ridiculous. (Telling someone they are silly is allowed, and does not hold any malice in our house because let's face it, we are all a little silly, and it's fun.) Well, today it was him telling Little Miss to stop calling him names because she is now making up nonsense words. What was it that made him so upset? She called him "Froo-froo" and "ruff-ruff." LOL.

Project Progress

Yesterday, I finished sewing my new nursing cover. I still need to sew the storage bag to fit it in, but I was proud of myself for getting a project started and finished all in one day. I think it's cute. I didn't pick out a 'boy' or 'nursery fabric' because I'm going to be wearing it, not the baby.

The bouncy chair arrived yesterday. I am keeping it in the box for now so that Little Miss doesn't get curious, think it's hers, and tries to sit in it. I think it's a good idea that it shows up the same time as the baby, so it's clear that it belongs to him.

Werty stayed home from work today to start in on building the playset. Bear is so excited to help! Werty wants to get it done this weekend, but with my mom being in town tomorrow, and a busy calendar, we will see. Meanwhile, we continue to have a 10 ft slide on the staircase leading to the family room until it gets attached to the playset outside.

34 Weeks...

Tomorrow marks 34 weeks in my pregnancy. I feel it physically, and yet, when I think about having a new baby in 6 weeks, I feel like time is going too fast. Today I finished the machine quilting on the baby quilt. The next step is the binding, and then it's done, and I can cross one thing off my list. Since this is baby #3, the list of preparations is shorter. I think that's why I felt like I had plenty of time, and then went, oh wait, I better get going on stuff. I did order a new bouncy chair, something we borrowed for baby #1, and then really missed having for baby #2.

After the quilt, my next project is sewing a nursing cover, you know, the kind with the boning on top. I love the flannel baby blankets that family made for me when I had my first child, and we use them, but I am excited about trying out something lighter and cooler for nursing this summer. The pattern I found on pinterest is one ply of fabric, and I got a good weight of fabric, but then my SIL Dawn was telling me how she likes her two ply cover more than her one ply one because it is stiffer and stays in place better. Thoughts on this, those who have made and/or used them?
